Boogie Board Magic Sketch Is a Fantastic Educational Toy for Elementary-Aged Children
We’re already fans of Boogie Board products, so we were excited to get our hands on their new Magic Sketch kit for kids. It’s an electronic art kit on which your kids can doodle, trace, learn, and more in rainbow colors with zero mess.
The Boogie Board Magic Sketch tablet itself is a semi-transparent LCD eWriter so you can draw and erase — and draw and erase — to your heart’s content without worrying about using up paper, pens, or crayons. When it’s time to erase, just click the button at the top of the screen, and your palette is instantly cleared for your next masterpiece. Inside the LCD screen is their Colorburst display, so when you draw, the lines show up colorfully, as if you were drawing with markers or crayons.
The kit comes with the following items:
- LCD Magic Sketch writing screen feat. Colorburst
- Protective cover & template holder
- Writing stylus
- 3 texture tools with 6 unique tips
- 6 game templates
- 6 learning templates
- 6 drawing templates
My daughter is about to turn six and is in between kindergarten and 1st grade. She’s really into writing and drawing, and she was obsessed with the Magic Sketch as soon as I handed it to her. She played with it for over an hour straight, which is unheard of for her. The fact that it’s electronic means I don’t have to worry that she’s playing with it on the couch, and all the while she’s learning.
At about $30, the Magic Sketch is a great deal considering you avoid buying paper and pens, are helping reduce waste, and it can supply hours of entertainment and education. Because the screen is semi-transparent, you can use the included templates for learning activities, or you can make your own and slip them behind the screen for your kids to use. The protective cover doubles as a template holder, if you clip it onto the back of the screen, which is a nice touch.
The included drawing tools are colorful and solid, so they’ll stand up to years of abuse from children. They make it a fun experience to draw on the Magic Sketch as well. My daughter had a lot of fun learning how to use each tool to make her drawings better. The writing stylus clips into place at the bottom of the screen, so you’ll never lose it.
My only complaint, if I had to think of one, would be that the Magic Sketch doesn’t come with a carrying case. We tossed everything into a large ziplock bag for storage, as we feared each of the individual pieces would get lost over time. Otherwise, we’re incredibly happy with the Boogie Board Magic Sketch. It’s good, clean fun that helps reduce waste, entertains, and teaches our kids. It’s also been a great toy to bring out to restaurants to keep our kids entertained.
The Boogie Board Magic Sketch kit is available in multiple styles; it retails for $29.99 directly from the manufacturer.
