I think the bus number cards would be perfect for back-to-school time. But, really, you can incorporate them into your classroom any time of the year. Oh, they’d fit right in during a transportation theme, too!
Bus Calendar Numbers
Even if you don’t like doing much with your classroom calendar, I think you’ll be able to use the printable numbers with your students! Read below for some suggestions about how to prep and use the bus numbers.
How to Prep the Bus Number Cards
You don’t need much to get the calendar numbers ready to use. Here’s what we used (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
- Number cards (get yours at the bottom of this post)
- Printer
- Scissors
- Laminator
- Laminating pouches
And that’s really about it! You can also gather a few items to use with the cards during math lessons, like:
- Pom poms
- Unifix cubes
- Glass gems
- Small bus toys
- Mini erasers
Of course, those items are optional. Check around the classroom and see what you’ve got on-hand first!
Once you have all of your supplies, it doesn’t take much to prep the bus calendar numbers. First, print them out. Then cut the cards apart. Next, run them through a laminator. Finally, cut the laminated cards apart. And you’re all ready to go! (Of course, if printing, laminating, and then cutting works best for you – do that instead!)
How to Use the Bus Calendar Numbers
You can do so much with these, as I’ve already mentioned. First and foremost, they work well with many types of classroom calendars. But that’s not the only way to use them! They can be used for all sorts of math activities for preschoolers and kindergartners.
Pair the bus numbers with the crayon calendar numbers to explore patterns. You can do this as part of your calendar, or as a separate math small group activity.
Explore numerical order by having the kids put the numbers in order from 0 to 35. Then challenge them to do so backwards.
Play a memory game by printing off two sets of bus calendar numbers. Players turn over two cards to see if they match, keeping the cards if they do (and returning them to gameplay if not).
Pair the numbers with manipulatives or loose parts to practice one-to-one correspondence and number identification. With kids just starting to explore this concept, use just a few numbers at first.
Use the cards as number formation cues alongside a sensory writing tray. It doesn’t have to be fancy! Just fill a shallow tray with sand or salt (or another sensory filler). Then let the kids write numbers in the tray.
Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list of how to use the printable numbers. Just a few ideas to get you started!
