Learning alphabet letters is an important thing to learn during the preschool and kindergarten years! A fun, hands-on way to learn this is through this Q-Tip Painting Activity. This activity I’m sharing with you today is for lowercase letters. I’ve also created Q-tip painting printables for uppercase letters and numbers, too.
I love teaching alphabet letters through hands-on activities. Most kids need a lot of multi-sensory activities to learn letters. This is just one way. You can also try alphabet sensory bins, games, books, crafts, and more!
This free printable includes 26 pages for all the lowercase alphabet letters. Each page has an alphabet letter that can be filled in with Q-tip painting. At the bottom of each page, there are two pictures that begin with that letter. For the vowel letters, there is a picture for a long and short vowel sound (i.e: e is for ear and elephant)
For this activity, children will dip a Q-tip into paint and fill in the circles on the letter. You don’t need a lot of paint on the Q-tip and may have to dip it in the paint several times to finish the letter.
We used the Cra-Z-Art washable kids’ paint but any washable paint will work for this activity. The small bottles made it great for dipping in Q-tips. You can also use an ink pad if you don’t have paint.
I recommend focusing on just one letter per day. Not only does this activity help kids with letter recognition, but it’s also great for fine motor skills! When a child holds a Q-tip, they have to hold the small Q-tip in place and dab the paint in each circle. This is good for building those smaller muscles of the hand.
