As you walk through the rooms in your home, do you ever wish a doorway was wider or that a wall could just magically disappear? Giving you that “open concept” you see on all of your favorite HGTV shows? Well we can’t just wiggle our nose and make a...

Plus we can design a complete and finished look for your spaces. This Bettendorf Iowa home was more than just a kitchen remodel story. We widened doorways, removed walls, and gave these homeowners a more open and brighter space.
Kitchen island with unique shaped Cambria quartz top in Bettendorf Iowa.
What a difference material selection can make in a new kitchen. The original kitchen in this home was a small design with an eat-in dining space. Dark wood cabinets and dark countertops boxed in the space with a U-shaped peninsula layout. The new layout removes that peninsula divide and uses the entire kitchen and casual dining space. Bright white painted cabinetry for the main perimeter of the kitchen helps to lighten the entire look and keep the new kitchen feeling bright and spacious.
A dramatic kitchen before and after story in Bettendorf Iowa.
What a dramatic difference from the original kitchen! We installed a section of taller cabinetry on the opposite end where the casual dining area was. Now it is home to a deep pantry cabinet, a counter-depth french door refrigerator, and built in wall oven and microwave. Keeping all of these deeper, and taller elements together allows the main kitchen “L-shape” to feel more open and spacious for the users near the sink and range wall.

Dura Supreme Cabinetry is painted White with a Pewter Accent Glaze and a decorative cabinet design on the end of the window wall includes glass inserts. A unique circle-shaped mullion door detail (shown below) is added to the top section of the doors and an open wine shelf is found on the bottom. Have limited space but want a customized cabinet layout? Our kitchen design team can make the most of your space with usable and stylish storage solutions that fit your space and budget.

Keeping the kitchen light and bright is a marble-look engineered quartz countertop selection from our Cambria Quartz collection. The stunning Skara Brae design gives the classic look of a marbled pattern with wide veins of warm grays. As a contrast to all of the white, a rich dark wood floor from our Bella Cera line has been installed throughout the new main floor of this home.

A Hickory Monte Viso floor in varied widths is now installed in the front entry, formal dining room, new kitchen, hallway, the living room, and hearth room. One key to a successful multi-room remodel is to try and keep a consistent flooring surface that marries all the spaces together. We also added custom window shades to all of the rooms we worked in. Our best-selling Transitions shades may seem like a modern style, but they look right at home in any space! This gorgeous traditionally-styled kitchen is a great example of that.

This style of shade allows you such versatile options for privacy and light. You can set them at any position that works for you with full or partial overlaps. Ask about the many colors, sizes, and options for these shades. We even offer cordless features like voice, and remote-controlled shades. Press play below to see the shades in this home in action.

The decorative valance above the kitchen sink is complimented by the wood hood and decorative mantle details above the cooking zone of the new design. Don’t want a metal hood as a part of your dream kitchen? You are not alone! We design many spaces using a wood hood cabinet with a blower insert installed within it. This allows the wall cabinet design to include the decorative hood instead of be disrupted by it. Want to see more examples of hood designs? Check out this board on our Pinterest page.

You have many options for how we can style this wood hood cabinet. In this kitchen we included beautiful carved wood corbels and a detailed shelf above the valance. These selections look even better with the Pewter accent glaze applied to help enhance all of the details. Including a shallow shelf like this above the cooktop provides a ledge for home accessories as well. Imagine this hood with a small sign or artwork leaning, or even a wreath or garland during the holidays.

The tile wall surfaces in this kitchen take the warm taupes and gray tones from the quartz counters and applies a glossy texture to the wall. A classic 3″ x 6″ subway tile shape is the man backsplash tile. This “Pardo” tile is from our Jeffrey Court line and the accent space above the cooktop is a Glazzio starburst series mosaic named “Kepplers Dusk”.

Of course the true star of a cooking zone is the range itself and this KitchenAid gas front-control range is a dream! A standard 30″ wide range with the look and features of a commercial model including convection and 5 burners on the cooktop. The best place to showcase the Skara Brae Cambria tops is the kitchen island top. The warm gray veining looks almost like rivers flowing through the piece. Cambria quartz adds drama to the look of your kitchen but no drama as far as upkeep! Engineered quartz is a wonderful surface for your counters. It is nonporous and requires no sealing to keep that quality. This surface is extremely durable and food-safe. That means you can truly get to work in your kitchen and it will clean up just like this when you are finished.

The kitchen island has some added details to it to help create a furniture look. We installed the Cambria with an Ogee Edge Profile which adds a detailed ledge all around the island top. We love how the light hits it and you can see the colors and patterns go throughout the entire slab. Each corner was also shaped to accent the wooden legs below.

To compliment the flooring woodtones, the kitchen island was installed in a Cherry “Java” stain as a contrast to the perimeter cabinetry. We included carved wooden legs at each corner and arched valances as an apron below the overhang. A wooden furniture baseboard molding completes the look. This island design offers a centrally-located work surface and a comfortable space for two to sit.

We widened doorways and also worked in other areas of this main level including the formal dining room, a front living room and this hearth room (shown below) just off of the kitchen. There we added a dry bar area to be used when entertaining guests. During the holidays do you find your own kitchen full of people? Adding a custom sideboard, dry, or wet bar to an adjacent room like this allows you to keep people out of your kitchen when you entertain.

A glass-front beverage cooler, base cabinet with drawer, wall cabinets, wine storage, and even stemware holders have all been included in this space. Our best-selling diode LED tape lighting is the perfect enhancement for a bar area like this because you can leave these low-voltage lights on as ambient lighting all of the time. This lighting is not just for the underside of cabinetry either. We use it often inside of our glass-door cabinetry. Check out the new look the fireplace wall received in the hearth room:
