Fathers Day Drinks Gift Guide
Sunday 20th June sees the annual celebration of Fathers Day. And what better to mark the occasion than by surprising the significant man in your life with one of these fine bottles…
Limited Edition Hennessy X.O. x Thomas Bastide Cognac Gift Set
An indulgent gift for the cognac lover, this set includes a bottle of the historic Hennessy X.O. (originally created as a personal treat for Hennessy’s family members), along with two stunning glasses designed by Thomas Bastide (read more here). Buying this ensures dad has something to sup on the rocks throughout his special day (and for months to come), but also two timeless keepsakes for his drinks cabinet.
Belvedere Organic Infusions
Produced in Poland using 100% organic rye, this vodka contains certified organic fruits, spices and botanicals. In line with the brand’s natural ethos, it contains no additives or artificial flavours. Recently launched (May 2021), the fiery ginger is offset by pear and honeyed flavours. Buy it for a health-conscious father, paired with oodles of sparkling water, for a fresh, simple and low sugar serve.
GlenAllachie 15 Year Old
A simple bottle of Speyside whisky is an excellent choice. This warming new incarnation from a long-established distillery offers exotic and comforting flavours. It contains notes of peanut brittle, dates, chocolate ice cream, walnut, raisin, Christmas spices, coffee, Turkish delight and ginger. Smooth and rich, he’ll find it easy on the palate, with none of the smokiness commonly found in whisky.
This is the fastest-growing tequila brand in the world, which is unsurprising, given it was birthed by one of the most successful actors of our time. George Clooney sampled over 700 tequilas before plumping for this family-crafted agave, produced in Santiago Matalán, Oaxaca. Each bottle is unique and each batch tested by none other than the filmstar himself. Herbaceous mint, oregano and thyme are balanced with sweeter notes of tamarind, pomegranate, banana, mango and hints of liquorice.
Eight Lands Organic Speyside Vodka
In a two-stage fermentation process, barley and wheat grains are combined in two ten-plate columns and a 1,000-litre pot still, to craft this organic spirit. The result is gluten-free with a deep flavour. Vanilla pods, marzipan, butterscotch and coconut dance on the palate along with just a hint of spice. The multi-award-winning Eight Lands is based at the foot of Ben Rinnes Mountain, with its organic ingredients all approved by the Scottish Organic Producers Association.
Three Seasons Gin
If the man in your life enjoys a cocktail, this makes for a superb ingredient. Cambridge Distillery’s Three Seasons Gin (read the full story here) was designed as the key ingredient in a signature Three Seasons Martini. Notably citrusy, sipping this takes the imbiber on a journey through spring, summer and autumn, evoking the aromas of the beverage’s university city home. Either present dad with a gift-wrapped bottle or mix him up one of these unusual botanical martinis as a precursor to lunch.
Hernö Dry Gin
This Swedish gin was voted Best G&T in the world in 2020, along with an array of other awards. Crafted in the small village of Dala on the East coast, it takes its cue from the area’s unspoilt surroundings. Hernö is one for juniper fans, with bursts of citrus and florals, providing a dry, smooth and rounded flavour. Handcrafted, the artisanal liquor contains eight botanicals and is perfectly complemented by a high-end tonic.
CÎROC Summer Citrus
Gluten-free and distilled from fine French grapes, this is a big name brand, that’s recently partnered with another famous name – Sean “Diddy” Combs. Launched in collaboration with the rapper, this premium vodka contains vibrantly coloured blood orange and lime, for an unmistakenly summery taste. P-Diddy describes it as: “The perfect complement to your summer celebrations with friends and family. Welcome to the Summer of Love.”
Dorset’s first-ever gin distillery (based in Southbourne, Bournemouth) brings us Conker. It’s uniquely distilled using British wheat spirit, spring water from the New Forest and a total of 10 botanicals, including locally grown and foraged gorse flowers, samphire and elderberries. Serve in a high glass over an abundance of ice, with a twist of lime and a splash of classic Indian tonic. If the heatwave continues, it’s the ideal drink for your father to enjoy in the sun.
Tommy’s Chilli Margarita
This fiery take on the classic margarita is presented in a colourfully labelled bottle, depicting the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Melding sweet and spicy, it’s both gluten and dairy-free. Spice it up even further garnished with a snip of red chilli, or opt for a more traditional twist of lime and a salt-rimmed glass over plenty of ice rocks.
Fok Hing Gin
The amusingly named Fok Hing Gin takes its title from a street in Hong Kong – one that understandably draws a great deal of tourist attention, along with Instagram posts. But while its roots may be in the Far East, the liquor is in fact distilled and bottled right here in the UK, providing a true East meets Wests theme. It contains jasmine green tea to provide a perfumed reminiscence of Hong Kong’s Fragrant Harbour.
