Garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and freshly ground pepper make up the All-Purpose Seasoning that I reach for the most often.

Loaded with my most frequently used spices, this seasoning blend is always worthy of space in my spice cabinet – although, if I’m honest, it’s on the counter more often than in the cabinet most days.

House Seasoning Recipe

Traditional recipes for house seasoning call for a simple blend of salt, pepper, and garlic. I’ve made that blend of spices plenty of times and it’s always a great combination.

However, my personal favorite (aka the “House Seasoning” of choice in my kitchen) also includes onion powder and smoked paprika.

All Purpose Seasoning

You’ll notice that I’ve also reduced the salt a good bit from the amounts used in traditional House Seasoning recipes.

This allows the seasoning blend to be used in greater amounts for extra flavor without making things “salty.”

These spices really are an all-purpose blend in my kitchen. They’re the everyday spices that can be reached for in almost any recipe to add a whole lot of flavor in just moments.

I’ve been making garlic and paprika recipe combinations for so long now, they’re an established flavor favorite. These Garlic and Paprika Rubbed Steaks and this Garlic and Paprika Roasted Cauliflower are terrific examples of how well these flavors work together.

This blend of spices is actually very similar to the Cajun Seasoning that we love so much, without any heat at all.

I’ve used this blend countless times for Crispy Oven Baked Chicken and it works beautifully for the pan-grilled chicken here too.

How To Make All-Purpose Seasoning

In a small bowl or jar, stir together garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and freshly ground pepper.
Store in an airtight container until ready to use.

How To Use All Purpose Seasoning for Chicken

Place chicken pieces on a large baking sheet or cutting board and pat dry.
Season each piece generously on each side with about 1/2 teaspoon of the spice blend.

Heat a nonstick grill pan or skillet over medium heat. Warm the oil in the pan. Place half the chicken in the pan, making sure there is a gap between the pieces. Cook the chicken without touching it for 5 minutes.
Flip over and cook an additional 3-5 minutes until cooked through. Repeat with the remaining chicken. Remove the cooked chicken to a plate.
