HelloFresh Southwest Seasoning Recipe
Chances are that even if you haven’t tried them out for yourself, you’re at least aware of Hello Fresh.
Its a meal prep delivery company that delivers all of the ingredients you need to make a pre-set variety of meals each week. You pick out your meals the week before based on a delicious assortment exclusive to that week and then all of your grocery shopping and meal planning is done for those meals – including healthy side dishes.
I’ve tried it out and been really happy with the quality and flavor of the recipes, however, my biggest complaint is sometimes they include these delicious seasoning packets that are exclusive to Hello Fresh and they don’t sell the seasonings separately. So, if you do find a recipe that you love and want to keep on making, if it uses one of those exclusives seasonings it’s pretty hard to get your repeat attempts to be just as delicious as the first version.
Luckily, HelloFresh has been very generous with sharing how to make their southwest seasoning blend, so this isn’t just an attempt at a copycat – this is the real deal!
What is Southwest Seasoning? This southwest seasoning blend is a super simple blend of garlic powder, cumin and chile powder that adds a bit of pungent acidity and a hit of rounded spice to your favorite dishes. It’s perfect on just about any protein and can also be included in your favorite chili recipe!
The best cost savings with this recipe is to purchase your spices from a bulk store, or if that’s not an option, buy the large containers of the individual spices and herbs. Buying the little containers to make this seasoning would be crazy expensive (but ironically, still cheaper than using the seasoning packets).
This southwest seasoning is shelf-stable for up to a year, as long as you use fresh (dried) herbs and spices when you make it and store in a cool, dry spot in your kitchen.
This seasoning is gluten-free, paleo, low-carb and vegan and makes a great homemade gift.
