Step 1. Get rid of the excess slime
Once you find some colorful goo on your carpet, the first thing you’ll need to do is to remove as much slime as possible. You can use your fingers or a spatula, or a small knife.
Step 2. Apply cleaning solution
There are many different homemade solutions you can use to clean the slime from your carpet. The most common is a combination of:
- vinegar plus water
- vinegar plus baking soda
- dish soap
- rubbing alcohol
Be sure to use what you have on hand. You can also consider using spray bottle cleaning solutions from the drug store.
Step 3. Scrub gently
Your cleaning solution should break the slime down and make the rest of the goo loosen. Use a scrubbing brush or a spoon to get the gook out of your carpet.
Step 4. Blot
Blot the area of your carpet with a paper towel or just a clean dry hand towel. At this point, the slime on your carpet should remove completely. If so, move to step 5. If there is some left, repeat the steps from 2 to 4.
Step 5. Use a vacuum or spot cleaner
Once the area you were cleaning from goo is dry, use a vacuum or spot cleaner for a final touch. It’ll remove any tiny bits of slime still clinging to the carpet fibers. All done! Congrats, now your carpet looks like it’s never been in contact with any sticky slime.
Will apple cider vinegar get slime out of the carpet?
Yes, you can use apple cider vinegar instead of the white one; it’ll be just as effective. The ratio of the cleaning solution is ⅔ cup of apple cider vinegar and ⅓ warm water. Follow the steps above to remove slime.
How do you get slime food coloring out of carpet?
If you use vinegar or rubbing alcohol to get rid of slime, it should take care of color stains left behind from the slime, but if after scrubbing you still find residue, consider a standard carpet cleaner like Oxiclean. Leave it on for 1-5 minutes, blot gently, and rinse properly.
How do you remove dried slime?
I’ve got good news and bad news for you. The good news is, the process of removing dried slime is almost the same as cleaning the wet one. It will just take longer.
