Tips for Getting Organized for Holiday Baking
I am a brand ambassador with The Container Store and this blog was written in partnership with them.
With Halloween and the election behind us it is officially time to start thinking about the holidays! I will be the first to admit that cooking and baking may not be my forte but I love spending time in the kitchen with my girls, especially during the holidays.
Whether you are preparing to do a bunch of holiday baking to give for gifts or just create some memories in the kitchen as a family, now is the time to start getting organized for holiday baking. We recently organized our spices and baking supplies so we are ready to whip up some holiday goodies on a moment’s notice. Using a few key products and an afternoon together we were able to turn our baking supplies into a setup worthy of a Hallmark holiday movie. The Container Store has everything you need to get organized and prepared for the holiday season so my girls and I took a quick trip for a curbside pickup order before diving into organizing.
TELL ME: are you doing any holiday baking this year? Does your kitchen need an overhaul before you are gingerbread ready?
How to Get Organized for Holiday Baking
Take everything out - As with all types of organizing you need to assess everything that you have before you dive into organizing. Remove every last spice, rolled up bag of flour and half used bottle of sprinkles from you cabinet and assess what you have on hand.
Check expiration dates and toss products that have gone bad - Yes, flour and spices do expire and no, you are never going to use that rock hard bag of brown sugar. Go through everything you pulled out of your cabinet and pantry and purge accordingly.
Start with a clean slate - Use this time to clean out your cabinet, vacuum up any crumbs and give the shelves a good wipe down.
Pick your products - Decanting makes the world go round for a professional organizers and will in your kitchen as well! Select containers and canisters to decant your spices and baking supplies for a more organized and clean look in your baking cabinet. I used this ProKeeper Baker's Storage Set from The Container Store for my baking supplies and these Glass Spice Bottles for my spices.
Decant - Decant all of your spices and baking supplies into their new containers.
Put a Label On It - Labeling is a crucial step in organizing. I selected these adorable and modern spice labels and pantry labels for our organization project. I love the modern look and they are so easy to order and customize. Paper & Pear passed along a discount code so you also can get your holiday baking station organized. Use code RACHELORGANIZES for 20% off the Modern or Minimalist spice or pantry labels on all orders before 11/30/20.
Mark Expiration Dates - When decanting it is very important to mark expiration dates so you can keep track of how long the items will stay fresh. I suggest using a dry or wet erase marker to write the expiration date on the bottom of the canister or jar.
Organize and Put Back - Give all of your newly decanted items a home in your cabinet or pantry. I used this spice rack to maximize the space in my cabinet and ensure that all of the spices are visible and easily accessible.
Get to Baking - that’s it! You are ready to tackle those jelly donuts or Christmas cookies.
